Expiration VS Best Before Dates

Many people don’t realize there is a difference between a BEST BEFORE date and an EXPIRATION date.  Unknowingly some tend to throw away perfect product based on the BBD or Expiration date.

Expiration Dates:

Lets us know when food items are no longer safe to be consumed. Food should never be consumed after its EXPIRATION date, as this is the last date that it is safe for consumption.

Best Before Dates:

Is the date that lets us know when food it is at its freshest. A BEST BEFORE date guarantees the freshness of the food.

Once a product has been opened the BEST BEFORE date not longer applies, the product should be stored correctly and consumed quickly.  If food is frozen at least two days before its BEST BEFORE date, it should be good for consumption for at least 2 days once it starts thawing.
